The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Immunoprevention Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Center for Epigenetics and Disease Prevention. What You Need to Know
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.
Position Details: Willingness to work some night/weekends and travel for presentations/conferences.
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in the area of Biomedical Sciences
Experience in working with primary cells, cell lines, 3D organoids, or animal models relevant to colorectal cancer research
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., cancer biology, molecular biology, immunology) obtained within the past three years
Expertise in epigenetics, chromatin biology, and immunology, with a strong background in experimental techniques such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, histone modification assays, flow cytometry, mass cytometry (CyTOF), and confocal microscopy
Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications
Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment
Demonstrated passion for scientific research, with a keen interest in cancer biology and immunoprevention
Responsibilities:
Independent research investigation - Conduct independent research investigations related to epigenetics and immunoprevention of colorectal cancer, under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI).
Design and execute experiments- Design and execute experiments involving epigenetic analyses, immunological assays, and molecular biology techniques. Perform data analysis and interpretation, and present research findings at national and international scientific conferences.
Experimental rodent duties- To the highest ethical standards, conduct and monitor breeding of rats and mice. Participate in breeding and genotyping. Carefully monitor and record rodent well-being. Perform endoscopies and polypectomies on live study animals. Perform necropsies and collection of organs for H&E, molecular, and immunohistochemically work. Administer drugs/compounds to study animals via intra-oral, intra-venous, intra-peritoneal or subcutaneous routes.
Collaborations, Publications & Presentations- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams, including clinicians, biostatisticians, and computational biologists, to integrate diverse expertise and perspectives. Prepare manuscripts for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the dissemination of research outcomes. Stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements in the field of epigenetics and immuno-prevention of colorectal cancer through literature reviews, attending scientific seminars, and weekly lab meetings. Provide guidance and support to students and junior lab personnel, and assist in the development of research grant proposals, ensuring the highest ethical standards and adhering to high levels of rigor and reproducibility.
