Summary

The long-term goal of Dr. Bing Zhang's research is to develop computational and statistical approaches that help translate multidimensional omics data into biological and clinical insights. Recent works focus on the following three areas: 1) Proteogenomics; 2) Precision Oncology; and 3) Bioinformatics tool development.


Job Duties
  • Encodes, tests, debugs, and installs the operating programs and procedures in coordination with users.
  • Prepares charts and diagrams to assist in problem analysis.
  • Submits recommendations for solutions. 
  • Participates in weekly lab meetings (every lab member presents their data/project for constructive criticism and feedback).
  • Designs and creates software programs, integrating systems and software, training end-users, analyzing algorithms, and modifying source-code.
  • Conducts data analysis of cancer cohorts at the pan-cancer level.
  • Creates workflow diagrams and charts to demonstrate the functionality of programs before coding them.
  • Writes and continually updates documentation for all programs for internal and external reference.
  • Tests programs for errors and fixes faulty lines of computer code.
  • Formulates and defines project scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems handling biological data.
  • May develop and modify computer programs.
  • Works with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers on small projects.
  • May provide technical guidance and work direction to lower-level bioinformatics and information systems personnel.

 


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biological Science, or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Master’s degree in a related field and three years of experience or a Ph.D. will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, Ruby on Rails, and more.
  • Machine learning and AI technology.
  • Must be a team player and work well within a group.
  • Must have excellent creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exemplify superior time management skills and capable of working productively with minimal supervision.
