Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites you to join our esteemed Business Development and Technology Transfer office as a Business Development & Technology Transfer Manager. As a key player in this dynamic team, you will contribute significantly to CSHL's mission of translating world-class research into tangible benefits for humanity.

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Forge Strategic Collaborations: As the Business Development Manager, you will be at the forefront of identifying, nurturing, and managing partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Your expertise in cultivating collaborations, licensing deals, and spin-off opportunities involving venture capital will play a pivotal role in advancing drug discovery projects including biologic, small molecule, and nucleic acid therapeutics. Collaborating with with the legal team to prepare legal agreements to establish collaborations and licenses.
  • Facilitate Collaboration Management: Acting as a liaison between senior faculty members and industry collaborators, you will ensure seamless communication and adherence to CSHL's commitments. From project team meetings to data and material transfer, your organization and attention to detail will be instrumental in meeting obligations and maximizing the potential of each collaboration.
  • Drive Project Success: Your ability to develop timelines, milestones, and budgets will be crucial in guiding projects to successful outcomes. You will also support technology transfer, intellectual property (IP) management, and contract maintenance, ensuring efficient progress throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Master Alliance Management: Operating as the primary point of contact for sponsored research agreements, you will facilitate seamless coordination among various groups within CSHL and foster effective communication with partner companies. Your expertise in alliance management will be key to ensuring the realization of project goals.
  • Champion Technology Scouting: Stay at the cutting edge of scientific advancements by actively participating in technology scouting at CSHL. Leveraging your strong faculty interactions and engaging in routine meetings, you will contribute to the identification of promising opportunities for future collaborations.

 

Position Requirements

Education: Must have a PhD in Life Sciences or Chemistry. 
Experience: 1-2 years of business development experience
Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and executive presence.
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Act with urgency in all stakeholder interactions.
  • Understanding of intellectual property (patents), contract negotiations, drafting license terms, market research, and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of contract and patent law is a plus.
  • High level of ethics and integrity in professional matters.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications.
