Job Summary

The labs of Jennifer Manly PhD and Adam Brickman PhD within the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain are seeking a Statistical Programmer/Data Manager.

Responsibilities

The candidate will have primary responsibility for data integrity and data analysis for various national and New York City-based cohort studies focused on social, structural, neural, biological, and genetic mechanisms of disparities in Alzheimer's Disease and cognitive aging. The candidate will interact with investigators, postdoctoral fellows, and staff at Columbia University and at other sites. Primary decisions will be related to statistical analyses according to knowledge and experience level. Broader decisions will be made in consultation with the PIs. The candidate will report to the PIs and will communicate and offer advice to the PIs regarding statistical approaches, program performance, and suggestions for improvement. The candidate will harmonize and organize data sets including the maintenance of relevant data documentation. They will perform statistical analysis of data sets, including structural equation modeling, longitudinal mixed models, and survival modeling approaches. The candidate will assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication, participate in, and author of scientific manuscripts, and assist with power analyses and other aspects of development and implementation of research studies.

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Independently program and perform statistical analyses in R, STATA, or SAS
  • Maintain database system for various projects collecting and linking clinical, imaging, genetic, biomarker, social, behavioral, administrative, and "exposome" data.
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
  • Possess good organizational, interpersonal, quantitative, and writing skills in order to communicate effectively with investigators, data managers, and other staff.
  • Test programs or databases, correct errors, and make necessary modifications.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
  • Specify users and user access levels for each segment of database.
  • Create codebooks and direct others in coding descriptions.
  • Review procedures in database system manuals and consult expert collaborators for making changes to database.
  • Review data requests with project manager to estimate time required to accomplish project.
  • QC data requests and work with project manager before distributing to investigators and or analysts.
  • Fulfill required IRB compliance trainings. 
  • Independently provide feedback to database users.
  • Prepare reports and data files as requested.

Minimum Requirement

Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4-6 years experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, doctorate, or equivalent in a scientific discipline related to the responsibilities of the position (i. e. Biostatistics, Public Health with emphasis on biostatistics or epidemiology, Quantitative Psychology, Statistics, etc.)
  • Alternatively, a bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant related research and programming experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in relevant related research and programming experience.
  • Experience working with clinical, biomarker, neuroimaging, and genomic data.
  • Experience maintaining data using REDCap, Qualtrics, and MS Excel.
  • Experience with statistical analyses in R, MPlus, Matlab, SPSS/Stata/SAS
  • Experience with longitudinal data analysis and latent variable modeling
  • Ability to work independently and yet to maintain the flexibility to respond to requests for support of ongoing projects

Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of related experience, a Master's degree and at least 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent in education, training and experience.
