Job Summary

**This is a Limited Appointment position with a duration of one year**

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will perform independently or with general direction at the fully operational journey level of the series to implement a qualitative study, as directed by Principal Investigators (PI). Supports the coordination and collection of data and operations of the qualitative study under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF and regulating agency policies.

Specifically, will be a qualitative researcher with experience working with populations made vulnerable to material needs insecurities or HIV-affected populations to support an NIH-funded longitudinal qualitative study. This study aims to investigate how material needs insecurities (food, housing, healthcare, and financial insecurity) affect health among individuals living with HIV in the SF Bay Area (CA) and Baltimore (MD). Incumbent’s duties may include but will not be limited to supporting the management and coordinating of study recruitment, data collection, and retention. This will include enrollment of study participants, obtaining informed consent, collection of qualitative data, managing of study reimbursements, and attending study meetings.

The CRC should be able to provide feedback on the qualitative in-depth interview guide, implement it with study participates with appropriate probes, and be well-versed in the management of recorded data, including encryption, processing for transcription, transcription review, and coding. CRC should also be familiar with thematic coding and collaborative approaches to qualitative data analysis. Further tasks include implementing and maintaining periodic quality control procedures; interfacing with departments to obtain research-related supplies and resources; maintain all regulatory documents; report study progress to investigators; participate in any internal and external audits or reviews of study protocols; and perform other duties as assigned.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education. With its home-base located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care since 1983. The division’s work is featured frequently in the media, and it is often visited by numerous international, national, state, and local dignitaries and delegations.

The division consists of approximately 36 faculty members, 11 fellows/postdoctoral scholars and 170 academic and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $52 million dollars.


Required Qualifications

  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments, and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with study participants, co-workers, & the principal investigators
  • Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with research on material-need insecurities, HIV, cardiovascular disease, and/or living with chronic diseases
  • CITI Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in health or social science-related field
  • Prior experience with qualitative data collection and/or qualitative analysis
  • Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation.
  • Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines:
    • Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • Health Information and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
    • The Protection of Human Research Subjects
    • CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
    • Effective Cash Handling Procedures
    • Environmental Health and Safety Training
    • Fire Safety Training
