Posting Summary
Responsible for conducting healthcare data analytics for RBHS Office of Clinical and Health Affairs and a large health system in Central New Jersey. Analytical work will range from descriptive to prescriptive; all analysis types may include a mix of collecting data, identifying patterns, assessing models, and creating visualization. This will require utilizing advanced tools and techniques, such as those available in Python applications, to transform large electronic medical record data sets and derive findings. Topics for data projects may include impactful research analysis questions in the fields of epidemiology and population health, health education, clinical care, or hospital and clinic operations.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Accesses and transforms large, complex data sets in a meaningful way; uses Microsoft Excel and computer programming languages, such as Python, for advanced data manipulation. Detects and analyzes data trends, correlations, and relationships, including use of statistical techniques.
  • Designs and produces data dashboards and info-graphics for a diverse audience of users. Able to create dashboard mock-ups and work with IT teams to design and implement.
  • Undertakes essential data integrity, analytic and report generation tasks and conducts data consistency and quality checks.
  • Collaborates with various departments, practice groups and organizations in order to perform data mining and querying functions on large healthcare-related data sets.
  • Provides administrative, strategic, and analytical support for intervention strategies and supports the development of programs. Performs research, gathers information, and creates program materials and documents.
  • Leads the effort in updating, validating, and streamlining the Health Education Management System (a dashboard visualization of medical education trends). Collects and enters data from stakeholders, finds trends, and works with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to implement user experience updates.
  • Investigates national bench-marking system methodology to understand drivers influencing trends and reconcile changes using EMR data.
  • Able to participate in stakeholder meetings to understand perspectives and data needs. Presents data analysis and trends to stakeholders, RBHS senior management, and hospital administrators.
  • Functions as a seasoned professional with strong skills in planning, organizing, and completing data requests and reporting projects. Works under minimal supervision and uses independent judgment to provide creative solutions to complex problems.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, applied social sciences or a similar field is required. Master’s Degree is a big plus, as is completion of a rigorous data boot camp.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in public health, data management, clinical research, statistical analysis, research is required.
  • Experience transforming data with computer programming languages, such as Python, R, SAS, or SQL required.
  • Python experience highly preferred; knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Python is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and pivot tables is required.
  • Experience with healthcare and clinical data (patient data, quality data, claims), as well as an understanding of electronic medical record system data collection and reporting required.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have excellent project management, time management, communication, interpersonal, decision making, analytic, and reporting skills.
  • Must be able to work with a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on data usage including faculty, staff, and senior administrators, as well as individuals at other healthcare institutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a hospital, healthcare, or health policy setting is a big plus.
  • Understanding of common statistical tests, such as chi square and z test, is a huge plus.
  • Experience using STATA is another big plus.
  • Knowledge of BI tools, such as Microsoft Access, Oracle tools, or enterprise business intelligence is a huge plus.
  • Experience working directly with Vizient querying tools is highly preferred.
  • Experience with dashboard tools, such as Tableau or PowerBL, is a another huge plus.
  • Experience with Epic data is a huge plus.
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, national benchmarking data, such as Vizient, Leapfrog, and U.S. News & World Report data and methodology is also a plus.
