Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) – Division of Life Sciences department. This position reports to the Business Manager Supervisor and is responsible for managing and maintaining the administration of the Division of Life Science (DLS) Designated, Endowed, Restricted, and Grant accounts.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds, prepares financial statements reflecting status of programs and activities.
  • Analyzes financial data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes.
  • Ensures compliance with University and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains database to capture employee and historical data.
  • Provides assistants in the day-to-day operations and development of DLS policies and procedures.
  • Performs special projects for management as assigned.
  • Acts as a liaison to ensure the integration of DLS business activities across departments and within University structure.
  • Works under general supervision, within established parameters, with few direct instructions.
  • Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor.
  • Performs professional work requiring knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices (GAAP), and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting.
  • Provides assistants in the day-to-day operations and development of DLS policies and procedures.
  • Performs special projects for management as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally-accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience in a financial/accounting function, and knowledge of Federal and State grant regulations.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good communication skills and computer literacy, specifically with the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Internal candidates must have or be working on completion of the Business/Accounting Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years relevant experience in a financial/accounting function.
Equipment Utilized
  • Computer skills including but not limited to Excel, Word, Access and in depth understanding of University Systems RIAS/Cornerstone/Marketplace/Expense Management, Discoverer, departmental Shadow System Grant Manager 13.0, and DGCA online systems such as IPAS, Researcher’s Dashboard and ECRT.
  • Will work with the system consultant and internal IT in implementing changes to the department’s shadow system.
