Required Education
● Requires enrollment in a master’s level program, preferably in social work or education.
○ Candidates with master’s degrees must be currently enrolled in a
graduate program at the University of Kentucky.
○ Candidates with bachelor’s or master’s degrees, if considered, will
be considered for a Graduate Assistantship reporting to The Big
Blue Pantry Program Coordinator.
● All candidates will have a demonstrable history in humanitarian or social services work which advocates and preserves the dignity of vulnerable populations.

Job Summary
The GSBBPA will be responsible for providing graduate/professional student & postdoctoral scholar case management for UK students who frequently utilize pantry services, assisting in educational outreach for the Big Blue Pantry to academic units and community partners, basic needs program and institutional research, and assist in the daily operations of the pantry, as needed.
The position is envisioned as a Graduate Assistantship for a student in either social work or education and will report to the Big Blue Pantry Program Coordinator.
The GSBBBPA serves four primary roles:
(1) Assisting in on-campus advocacy for the Big Blue Pantry, under the leadership of the Big Blue Pantry Program Coordinator, tasked with raising awareness of the program and the needs it aims to address among the campus community.
(2) Managing the Swipe Ahead program and ensuring compliance in student applications.
(3) As a liaison to TRACS (Triage, Referral, and Crisis Support) assisting students who are continual pantry visitors to assess greater needs and/or extenuating circumstances.
(4) As a researcher tasked with compiling data-driven reports related to pantry visits, statistics related to UK’s Basic Needs Program, and best practices for pantry operations, under advisement of the Big Blue Pantry Program Coordinator.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Extremely well-organized with excellent follow-through ability. Effectively manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Experience in counseling, advising or teaching of students/adults about basic needs issues.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and to interface effectively with students, faculty and university administrators.
  • Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects, both independently and in a team.
  • Ability to organize and execute a research program in some area related to basic needs.
  • Ability to summarize, create, or interpret quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication, program planning, presentation, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of team members and constituents.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with academic units.
  • Has basic knowledge of life and culture in academia and graduate education.
  • Service-oriented approach.
  • Careful attention to detail.

Preferred Education/Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in social work or education. Current enrollment in a graduate program at UK (social work or education).
