Mend Coffee will partner with an established local roaster to serve specialty coffee under Hope Heals’ already recognizable brand. Utilizing best-in-class equipment and industry training, Mend Coffee will delight customers with signature espresso beverages, and signature specialty coffee blends for customers to enjoy at home or send as a gift. Mend will deliver Southern hospitality in a refined setting.

In addition to creating a high-end coffee destination, Mend will provide jobs and training opportunities for the chronically underemployed and under-resourced disability community. In the spirit of line blurring, our mission is to employ people with disabilities and also to create a paragon of accessibility in the physical coffee shop space, thus inviting and dignifying both customers with disabilities and those who are typically-abled to come here too. Mend will utilize reputable local vendors to assemble an offering of freshly-baked goods, along with healthy and indulgent small meals. Mend Coffee and Goods will have a robust retail component stocked with mission-driven gifts, Mend’s coffee and beans, and goods that responsibly support under-represented makers. Mend’s retail will offer its customer a reliable place to find the perfect responsibly sourced gifts, hope-filled care packages and gift boxes, and a variety of thoughtfully curated goods.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: General Manager/Head of Operations

Location: Buckhead area of Atlanta, GA

Company: Mend Coffee, LLC

Classification: Full-Time

Salary: $50-65k. Dependent on experience.

Job Purpose: To take on responsibility for ensuring that the daily operations of the coffee shop are in compliance with company standards in the areas of preparation, customer relations, shop maintenance and repair, inventory management, team management that includes an integrated employment model, recruiting, and financial accountability. This senior leadership role will be integral to the opening of the business, as well as the ongoing growth and success of Mend Coffee. In addition, it is the Head of Operations’ responsibility to ensure that the highest quality of products and services are delivered to our guests.

The ideal candidate will understand their role is to lead in the development and implementation of strategic changes within the business, their roles and the leadership of their team.

These responsibilities are fulfilled through the delegation and supervision of the team.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Operations Management

  • Designing, Implementing & managing operational processes with a high priority on accessibility, including an initial operations audit to ensure efficient production across all departments and that facilities operate safely in compliance with regulatory safety standards.
  • Accountable for the creation and execution of leadership strategies, always ensuring consistent and quality product while driving reliable and efficient operations
  • Developing a data model to monitor current & future capacity requirements that take into account future demand, proposition enhancements and cost reductions
  • Responsible for business expenditure and managing all costs, including reporting on the P&L.
  • Using existing knowledge of sector to recommend automations and efficiencies; costing out budgets & cost savings, and monitoring & reporting on expenditure against forecasts
  • Implementing & managing systems and technology to maximize operational effectiveness and efficiency - troubleshooting systems issues
  • Working with other leadership to shape the Mend Coffee + Goods business in order to delight more customers, who are anticipated to represent a large variety of abilities, reduce costs and manage risks and business continuity
  • Lead Mend Goods (in-store retail) aspect of business.
  • Responsible for all customer + vendor inbound/outbound communication (email, online reviews)
  • Collaborate with Hope Heals’ marketing team to organize implement marketing initiative ( events + offerings + discounts). Support marketing initiatives for both entities.
  • Lead on change management: planning thoroughly, setting implementation plans, training/equipping staff of all abilities to deliver. Define and measure success metrics and monitor change progress and manage start-up problems until running smoothly
  • Serving as Senior Leadership, ensuring the achievement of all Key Performance Indicators
  • Driving metrics – introducing a performance-driven culture to measure and improve production, delivery, quality, cost, safety and morale
  • Working closely with product team to ensure effective product trials and launches
  • Implement sustainability initiatives to improve our impact on the environment

Compliance:

  • Manage organizational risk, identifying gaps and developing strategies to mitigate risks, with support from outsourced Compliance Agency - including the management of that contract
  • Collaborate with the Community and Program Manager to manage organizational risks and requirements of employing adults in an integrated work environment
  • To lead the Mend teams to deliver the highest quality food safety standards throughout the company to ensure the development of a ‘Quality’ culture. Also to ensure standards of hygiene and good housekeeping appropriate to a quality food manufacturer are maintained
  • The delivery and maintenance of a safe working environment ensuring that production areas comply with legal & best practice standards
  • To ensure & record team compliance with all Company Policies and Procedures (taking appropriate action where necessary)
  • Responsibility for ensuring company compliance with all Health & Safety and Food Safety legislation and guidelines
  • To manage Mend relationship with Facility Management Company & service providers, contracts & necessary licencing
  • To be a key point of escalation and a contact for team for all issues relating to production or site operations, troubleshooting and crisis management

Team:

  • Collaborate with Hope Heals + Mend’s Community + Program Manager as a workplace advocate for the professional and relational success for employees affected by disability
  • The delivery and ongoing development of a working environment where individuals feel able to continually challenge the status quo, embrace change consistent with the company values and are encouraged to make decisions in driving continuous improvement
  • Leaders will participate in working shifts at Mend as a best practice of servant leadership and to empower continuous training and development of the Mend team

Job Requirements and Abilities:

  • 5 years+ experience of running a complex & growing production and/or FOH operation
  • Excellent critical reasoning skills
  • Ability to obtain the knowledge and skills of every position in the operation
  • Must be able to work flexible hours
  • Self-directed and highly organized
  • Encouraging attitude, fun and outgoing
  • Evidential competence in Performance Management, Planning & prioritizing, flexibility and change management, problem solving and decision making, leadership, communicating with impact, strategic thinking, customer awareness and commercial acumen
  • Experienced with logistics management and problem solving, thrives dealing with this!
  • Excellent social skills and people management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with rigorous attention to detail
  • A proactive, enthusiastic, self-motivated approach to working and experience of multi-tasking
  • Excellent time management with an ability to prioritize and plan
  • Highly proficient with technology including G-Suite, MS Office, POS systems & applications for managing productivity and staffing
  • Has a practical and flexible approach to work and has the ability to learn new concepts quickly

Preferred:

  • Level of Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Experience working with POS, such as Clover and Toast
  • Experience working with or caring for people with disabilities
  • Understanding of the food/hospitality industry
  • Recruitment experience
