Anticipated Salary Range:* $130,000 to $169,669 annually, commensurate with experience.

About the Role:*
The Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) serves as the Chief Academic Officer by leading, planning, organizing, and administering academic programs and related support activities that serve the needs of the diverse student body at Mesa Community College (MCC). The VPAA is critical in shaping, communicating, and executing the institution's academic vision and strategic direction, including assessment of learning and upholding accreditation standards, in the development and oversight of traditional academic and occupational education programs. The VPAA reports directly to and advises the President and is a key member of the College's senior leadership team who work collaboratively to ensure the College holistically meets the needs of our students and maximizes opportunities for the College community.

MinimumQualifications:
Academic Pathway

  • Master's Degree in a teaching field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Four years of experience in academic leadership and/or supervisory roles in higher education.
  • Examples of academic leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Three years of teaching that include curriculum/coursework development.

OR

Non-Academic Pathway

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or leadership-related area.
  • Four years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:*

  • Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Six or more years of progressive leadership experience in academic affairs administration at a comprehensive higher education institution in a multi-college system.
  • A minimum of three years full-time college teaching experience, preferably at a community college.
  • Demonstrated record of a commitment to transparent and inclusive shared governance strategies and academic freedom.
  • Demonstrated record of creating and maintaining successful partnerships with K-12 schools and workforce development partners.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining an inclusive working and learning environment that values diversity, equity, and belonging.
  • Demonstrated experience using data-informed practices to lead strategic enrollment and retention initiatives that promote equitable student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting innovative teaching and learning practices for a variety of instructional purposes and formats.
  • Experience with successful implementation of guided pathways practices (e.g. pathway mapping, developmental education, meta-majors, integrated student support).
  • Demonstrated experience with accreditation, including planning, preparation, and implementation.
