Position Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Department of Epidemiology is one of the seven departments located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. The department’s primary focus is to the development and application of research methods to understand the patterns and causes of health and disease, and the application of that knowledge to improving the health of populations. We provide strong training in research methods and opportunities for the application of epidemiology to a wide range of health problems through our research. The achievements of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have enabled us to become one of the leading academic departments of epidemiology in the world. The department has 30 Tenured-Tenure Track / 7 Joint Tenure-Track Faculty, 25 Fixed Term / 3 Joint Fixed Term Faculty, 120 Adjuncts, 19 EHRA Non-Faculty, 15 Postdocs, 34 SHRA (Staff), 44 SHRA Temporary and 202 Students. The department’s operating budget is 27 million a year. |

Position Summary | We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a study about methods used in randomized clinical trials. The project, funded by the National Library of Medicine (1R01LM014079-01), aims to apply natural language processing to characterize clinical trial conduct and reporting. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will assist in identifying eligible studies, coding included studies, analyzing data, preparing manuscripts and presentations, and completing other tasks as assigned. We anticipate there will be opportunities to co-author articles and to give research presentations. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | PhD in epidemiology or a related field |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | This position requires knowledge of clinical trial design and analysis. It requires the ability to work independently without close supervision. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Successful completion of courses on clinical trials, experience conducting and analyzing clinical trials, and experience working with clinical trial manuscripts (e.g., protocols, results reports) would be advantageous. Evidence of first author publication(s) in peer-reviewed journals strongly preferred. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements | The position requires the ability to use a desktop computer with or without accommodation. The successful applicant will use web-based software used to annotate clinical trial manuscripts, for which training will be provided. |
