Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Researchers – Cognition and fMRI

Job Description

The Cantlon Lab at Carnegie Mellon University is recruiting postdoctoral researchers and graduate students for neuroimaging and cognitive research with children ages 3 to 10 years – specifically, for a project on early mathematics and logical reasoning development using fMRI methods. Current research aims to explore environmental sources of individual differences in spatial and mathematical abilities including math activities, SES, and gender socialization.
Our laboratory is an interdisciplinary environment, we work on comparative studies across species, age, and culture using multiple cognitive science techniques. Our broader goal is to understand how complex cognition emerges in humans, which cognitive and neural processes are universal across people, and what makes human cognition unique compared to other species.
Researchers will lead a new developmental fMRI study by designing and programming experiments, coordinating MRI scans of children and adults, conducting fMRI data analysis, and manuscript production. We use multiple methods in our fMRI research and are interested in exploring new child neuroimaging techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young children in a cognitive or educational context
  • Scholarly background in cognitive theories
  • Experience with fMRI data collection and analysis
  • Experience coding in Matlab, Python, R, or related platforms
