Job Description Summary
The Algae Systems and Ecological Engineering Lab of Dr. David Blersch, with the Biosystems Engineering Department (http://www.eng.auburn.edu/bsen/) at Auburn University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to conduct research on ecotechnology development for nutrient recovery from wastewater streams. The appointment is for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal up to a four year period. The position is a 12-month, benefits eligible, non-tenure accruing position and is immediately available. Preferred starting date is August of 2023.
The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to develop research investigating the remediation of wastewaters from aquaculture, poultry processing, and other industries using ecotechnological approaches, including wetland treatment systems and/or phytoremediation systems using algae cultivation. The research position is funded across two USDA grant funding opportunities focused on sustainable approaches to agricultural wastewater remediation. Opportunities exist to design and implement own experiments related to wetland treatment approaches to novel wastewaters. Contributions to grant proposal and research manuscript writing is expected and encouraged as well.

Minimum Qualifications
The minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Biosystems, Agricultural, Ecological, and/or Environmental Engineering or a related field with interest and/or background in ecological approaches to remediation of agricultural wastewaters at time of employment. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to translate research into publications, strong interpersonal communication and mentoring skills, and ability to work effectively as an individual and a member of a team. The candidate will be able to design, develop, and build mesocosm-scale experimentation systems for investigation into ecotechnology, and previous research experience in ecological engineering approaches to environmental problems is desirable.
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include previous experience with analytics for characterizing water and wastewater and/or algal biomass.
