The CALS School of Integrative of Plant Science (SIPS) encompasses five fields: Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology, and Soil and Crop Sciences. Combined there are 100+ faculty, ~200 undergraduate majors, 200+ graduate students in six fields, and 600+ other employees located in Ithaca, Geneva, and other satellite locations across New York State. The School offers the multidisciplinary undergraduate major in the Plant Sciences and is also home to the Agricultural Sciences major. School faculty also contribute to the Biology, Global Development, and Viticulture & Enology majors.

Position Function

Seeking outstanding individual to assist with research, extension, and project management in the Cornell Sustainable Cropping Systems Lab. The position is located in the Section of Soil and Crop Sciences within the School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS) at Cornell University. The research aims to strengthen food systems through interdisciplinary, systems-based research on agronomic management practices and their effects on sustainability indicators. Research areas include no-till agriculture, weed ecology, organic management of corn and soybeans, and more. The incumbent will manage multiple projects, coordinate research, manage and analyze data, write articles and reports, support teaching and extension activities, and assist with fieldwork including soil, crop, and weed sampling and sample processing.

Anticipated Division of Time

Statistical analyses, writing, and publishing scientific articles 50%

Project management and coordination 30%

Field work and data collection 10%

Teaching and extension activities  5%

Mentoring graduate students and other team members 5%

Requirements

Successful candidates must have a PhD degree in Ecology, Agronomy, Weed Science, Soil Science, or related discipline. Strong analytical and scientific writing skills are required.

Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse, interdisciplinary team are essential. Interest or experience in agroecology, climate change adaptation and mitigation, organic agriculture, or biodiversity are also required.

Supervision Exercised

The position may supervise students collecting field data for plant and soil research, in addition to some data analysis.
