Department Overview

The objective of this position is to conduct research in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases using advanced imaging technologies such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography. This requires maintaining current knowledge of the pertinent literature, and formulation of clinical study design, image processing, and statistical analyses to illuminate specific research questions. A significant percent effort will be placed on developing specific hypotheses, maintain and improving ocular imaging system, performing image processing and analysis, and writing and preparing presentations and manuscripts.


Function/Duties of Position

Areas of research interest include maintaining and improving imaging systems and their associated data acquisition platform, developing imaging processing and analysis toolkits. Give presentations of research results.

Preparation of manuscript for journal publications, papers and grant applications.

Teach image processing, image grading, and statistics to research and clinical trainees.


Required Qualifications

PhD in Ophthalmology, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or related field.

Strong organizational and multitasking skills are critical. The successful candidate must be able to work well independently and assume responsibility for specific phases of research projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with team members are essential. Strong problem solving skills and creative thinking is essential. Familiarity with image processing, image grading, research design, statistics and the use of computers for research is highly desirable. Expert knowledge of statistical programming languages. Knowledge of MATLAB programming environment needed. Knowledge of neural network and other machine learning techniques helpful. A working knowledge of common computer software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently; willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model.


Preferred Qualifications

One year work experience, or equivalent in thesis research and other research projects.

Experience in advanced imaging integration and development.
