Position Summary | The UNC Department of Pediatrics, in conjunction with the Children’s Research Institute (CRI), is recruiting a Research Associate to join the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology. This position will work on a number of bench science research projects focused on regenerative medicine models within the Department. The successful applicant will report to the Director of the Center for Rare and Interstitial Lung Diseases and the Laboratory Research Manager. Responsibilities include independent experimentation, interacting with internal and external collaborators, overseeing research projects to ensure appropriate design, implementation of protocols and accuracy of data, assisting with grant reports and new applications as well as acting as a mentor for Post docs, MD fellows and undergraduate students as needed. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Applicants should possess a An MD and/or a PhD in a natural or health science related field is required. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | A minimum of 2 years of experience leading research projects is required. Knowledge and experience working in an academic medical institution is also required. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences as well as build relationships with a variety of constituents (e.g., research PIs, study subjects, regulatory personnel, clinical and administrative staff, industry representatives, philanthropic donors). Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively and exhibit proven research abilities with an understanding of the culture, policies, and procedures relevant to academic research programs. This position requires an individual with: Experience in the design of experiments, statistics, biostatistics, and statistical data analysis. A variety of technical skills, including advanced mammalian cell culture skills, induced pluripotent stem cell generation, characterization and differentiation, organoid culture, quantitative real-time PCR, flow cytometry, immunoassays, immunofluorescence staining, and mouse models. Experience with regenerative medicine approaches strongly preferred, especially in respiratory biology. A history of successfully grant writing and manuscript preparation. Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate complicated issues effectively. The ability to work simultaneously on several activities and handle multiple demands with efficiency and professionalism. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Successful candidates will have very strong communication and analytical skills. In addition, experience conducting data analysis and management is strongly preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability to work well within a team environment as well as independently. |
