Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the principal investigators/co-investigators (PI/Co-PIs), the Postdoctoral Researcher will manage data sets; design, organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced analyses using established scientific protocols and procedures and in some cases design/program new protocols; summarize findings and prepare results for technical reports and journal submission; and guide and mentor junior technicians, students and researchers.

Specifically, this position will provide conceptualization, data management, analytic, and research reporting support related to paternity establishment, child support payments, and interventions such as Parenting: It’s a Life, Voluntary Paternity Establishment, Iowa Aftercare, and other initiatives.

Research Conceptualization (25%) - Work with state stakeholders and the Iowa State team to construct research design appropriate to policy needs. Conceptualize and conduct short-term tests and research activities in support of broad-based/longitudinal research projects. Conduct studies of related literature and research to support the design and implementation of projects and development of reports.

Data Management / Analysis (40%) - Collect, prepare and analyze research data. Perform statistical analyses.

Communication / Reporting (25%) - Write research reports and manuscripts that highlight findings from research activities ensuring consistency with the standards of reporting and academic publication and follow the guidelines of the contract between Iowa State and Iowa HHS. Communicate to

Program/Project team developments/progress and results of research activities. Identify areas of improvement within the research structure using integrated and collaborative management approaches. Mentor other research personnel and assist in coordinating research efforts.

Other duties as assigned (10%)


Required Minimum Qualifications:

 PhD in Human development, Family Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or closely related field. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in quantitative data analysis and management skills using SPSS, SAS or STATA.

  • Experience working with state/public programs.

  • Experience working with administrative data.
