Texas Children's began its expansion into Austin in March 2018 with the opening of Texas Children's Urgent Care Westgate, and now includes 18 Texas Children's Pediatrics locations, as well as outpatient specialty care and maternal fetal medicine practices.  Our new hospital, under construction at 9835 North Lake Creek Parkway, will join our comprehensive and growing suite of pediatric, urgent care and specialty care services around the city in February 2024.

 

About the Division of Psychology at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital:

The Division of Psychology within the Department of Pediatrics includes more than 50 pediatric, clinical, and neuropsychologists practicing across subspecialty areas at Texas Children's Hospital, providing care in both the inpatient and outpatient environments. BCM, our academic home, is also home to outstanding psychology training programs at the graduate, internship, and postdoctoral levels.

Summary

The Psychology Division in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is recruiting a Pediatric Primary Care Psychologist to support the growth of Texas Children's Hospital in Austin, Texas.  The psychologist in this position will be the first Austin-based psychologist to join a growing team of psychologists and other behavioral health clinicians integrated into our Texas Children's Pediatrics Practices and will be an integral part of the Psychology Division's expansion into Austin, joining three other TCH psychologists in the North Austin area.


Job Duties

The psychologist working in the Pediatric Primary Care setting will:

  • Provide direct behavioral health care to children, adolescents, and families within a busy primary care setting.
  • Provide consultation to patients and families referred from pediatric primary care providers to assist with triaging patient needs, generating a treatment plan, and providing appropriate recommendations to address the presenting problem.
  • Implement evidence-based and brief, solution-focused interventions tailored to the presenting problems, psychosocial environment, and cultural context.
  • Recommend appropriate follow-up services and help families navigate how to access additional services as indicated.
  • Collaborate with the patient's primary care physician, family members, school personnel, and other medical or behavioral health providers to promote interdisciplinary care for effective intervention.
  • Partner with clinic staff to create protocols for screening common childhood mental health problems, responding to crisis, and other plans of care for specific patient groups.
  • Support development, coordination, and implementation of psychological service delivery programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates must be graduates of an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical, school, or counseling psychology, must have completed an APA-accredited internship, must have postdoctoral experience in child/adolescent psychology and pediatric psychology experience, and must be eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in Texas.
