Position Overview | The PIs of the NSF-funded DRK12 project entitled Synchronous Online Video-Based Development for Rural Mathematics Coaches are eliciting applications for a post-doctoral fellow position that will begin in September 2023 and last up to two years. We are looking for applicants who completed their doctorate by the end of summer 2023 (negotiable for those who finish the end of 2023), preferably in the field of mathematics education. The post-doctoral fellow must reside within the United States and can work remotely during the entire followship; the fellowship will be administered through the University of Idaho. We are seeking someone who has expertise in mathematics education, especially with respect to models of coaching and online teacher education, and who has applied that expertise to qualitative coding of data sets. The advanced analytic skills we are seeking include an understanding of both inductive and deductive aspects of coding, the consensus process, reliability of data analysis processes, and rigorous support of claims. The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in all aspects of advanced analysis and dissemination, including preparing conference proposals, manuscripts for publication, and mentoring doctoral research assistants. These activities will provide benefits to the project as well as the postdoctoral fellow. PI Julie Amador will serve as mentor to the postdoctoral fellow. Given that PI Amador was formerly a two-year post-doctoral fellow on an NSF-funded DRK12 project, she has personal experience with the benefits and mentorship aspects of a post-doctoral fellowship position. Specific plans for mentoring include: · Meeting formally weekly with the post-doctoral fellow on analysis-related tasks (provide mentorship on project tasks, both short-term and long-term, with open access for learning), · Supporting the post-doctoral fellow to coordinate data analysis timeline and progress (provide assistance for growth with various data analysis processes), · Supporting the post-doctoral fellow to interface with the advisory board on data analysis-related topics, as necessary (supporting interface and community with experts in the field), · Co-authoring conference proposals/proceedings, manuscripts with the post-doctoral fellow (supporting professional writing process), · Supporting the post-doctoral fellow to identify and working on particularly aspects of data analysis that the post-doctoral fellow wants to lead; supporting efforts for dissemination from that work (with the post-doctoral fellow being lead author) · Supporting travel for project finding dissemination (expand knowledge of where/how to disseminate and associated conference travel), · Helping post-doctoral fellow connect with other post-doctoral fellows and/or faculty working on coaching projects (expand community within mathematics education for the post-doctoral fellow) In addition to mentoring the postdoctoral fellow on activities related to the project, PI Amador will also advise the fellow on identifying and applying for academic positions beyond the postdoctoral experience. |
