Position Overview | Werner Sustainable Energy Lab is looking for a motivated postdoctoral fellow. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for leading the power electronics projects of the Werner Sustainable Energy Lab and providing support for the ongoing project from DOE, High Power Density Motor Equipped with Additively Manufactured Windings Integrated with Advanced Cooling and Modular Integrated Power Electronics. |
Duties and Responsibilities | · Coach and provide guidance for the Power Electronics students · Assist to write proposals for funding · Engage with Mechanical and System engineers · Test prototype power electronics circuits in the lab · Perform topology selection trade studies · Design circuits, pick components, create schematics, support layout of circuit boards · Analyze and simulate circuits and components o Simulate circuits using MATLAB, PLECS, and other tools o Analyze structures and magnetic components o Develop Controllers for Power Electronics Converters and Drives |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Ph.D. or Ph.D. Candidate close to graduation Deep understanding of power semiconductor switches and diodes, and their characteristics Deep understanding and knowledge on Multi-port power converters Understanding of devices built upon various materials such as silicon, SiC, and GaN Strong experience designing and analyzing inverter and converter circuits including gate drivers Knowledge and experience with embedded control of power electronic circuits
Knowledge and experience with additive manufacturing in electric machines Knowledge and experience with advance cooling methods and heat pipes Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment |
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | · Familiar with Rockwell and Eaton motor drives · Familiar with AMETEK power supplies · Familiar with AutoCAD or equivalent software (OnShape etc.) · Familiar with Ansys/Q3D or equivalent software · Familiar with Dynamometers and induction machines |
