One full-time Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Kara Margolis in the Department of Molecular Pathobiology at the New York University College of Dentistry.  Dr. Margolis' lab studies the biology of the enteric nervous system (ENS) and the role of the gut in brain-gut axis disorders.  The candidates will work closely with the PI and other lab members in the design and implementation of experiments that use mouse genetic models to investigate the role of ENS and epithelial development in gastrointestinal function, motility, inflammatory bowel disease and mood and behavioral disorders.  These positions require bright, self-motivated and organized individuals who are quick to learn new techniques, and feel comfortable working independently as well as with others.

Primary job responsibilities include writing grants and papers, performing experiments and maintaining the mouse colony (breeding, genotyping, and administering treatments to genetically-modified mice). Experiments will involve mouse dissection, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, immunoblotting , FACS, confocal microscopy, GI motility studies, studies to assess for nociception and behavioral studies. Secondary responsibilities will include ordering supplies, maintenance of stock reagents, and management of lab expenditures.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $62,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate degree, preferably in the field of enteric nervous system or central nervous system physiology

Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience of in a laboratory setting 
  • Facility with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Proficiency with written and spoken English
  • Candidate must feel comfortable with the handling and dissection of laboratory mice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in study of the physiology of the enteric and/or central nervous systems

Special Indications:

  • This position works with chemicals and laboratory animals.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be necessary.
  • A minimum of a two-year commitment required.
  • Chosen applicant will be expected to start by January 2024
