Description

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston is seeking a postdoctoral researcher who would further develop their skills in the acquisition and interpretation of isotope data and advance their leadership and management experience. The candidate is expected to:

  •  Apply clean-lab chemical preparation and thermal-ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) techniques to the measurement of stable and radiogenic isotope ratios across a wide variety of natural and experimental samples and apply geochemical modeling techniques to the processing and interpretation of isotopic data.  Lead in the development and submission of high-quality research manuscripts and develop competitive grant-writing skills through the submission of grant applications to Federal agencies.  Engage in the scientific community through the presentation of research results at national and international conferences. Assist the PI in mentoring/training of graduate students and in the leadership and management of the TIMS lab.

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a team led by assistant professor and TIMS lab director Dr. Michael A. Antonelli and supported for a period of up to two years (with possible extensions contingent on additional funds obtained by the PI and/or postdoctoral researcher).

Qualifications

Ph.D. degree, high proficiency in English (written & oral)

Requires advanced knowledge of isotope geochemistry and of thermal ionization mass spectrometry techniques, normally acquired through attainment of a related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

The candidate should (1) have a PhD degree in geochemistry or a closely related discipline, (2) demonstrated excellence in research through publications in scientific journals, (3) have strong analytical skills and a high-level of independence in the laboratory, and (4) have excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
