The Polarization Lab at Duke University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate. We seek a recent PhD with an interest in computational social science and data science (broadly defined). This individual will help design, execute, and analyze a series of field experiments on a platform created by the Polarization Lab for scientific research on social media. This innovative scientific platform, driven by the increasing demand for real-time social media research data, can be digitally deployed to large samples of study participants. The Postdoctoral Researcher will enjoy the capacity of the platform to execute and reproduce novel, sophisticated and/or foundational studies in the field, investigating the system dynamics of social media environments, emerging roles in social media of large language models and generative AI, and data-driven frameworks for depolarizing social media discourse. Applicants should have strong backgrounds in statistics, survey and study design, computer science, and political science and sociology theory. Applicants should also have a strong interest and track record in interdisciplinary qualitative and quantitative research methods.

The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of R and/or Python software, have experience performing statistical analyses on large datasets, have experience conducting survey research online, and have experience working with natural language processing and application programming interfaces. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will help supervise graduate students and undergraduate students and work in tandem with a Research Engineer to design and implement new research studies. They will also work with the Lab's directors to analyze data generated by these studies, write them up as scientific articles, and assist with grant-writing and other public outreach. The postdoc can be affiliated with one (or more) of Statistical Science, Sociology, or Political Science departments at Duke University.

Applicants should upload their CV, a brief statement of their background and interests and contact information only for at least three references to AcademicJobsOnline.org (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/25160 ). The Polarization Lab will begin to review applications on July 1st, 2023, until a candidate is hired. Prospective applicants can email any questions regarding the position to sg657@duke.edu .
