Job Description

National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Bethesda, Maryland

The Laboratory of Chemical Physics, NIDDK, at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is searching for a Staff Scientist who will study the effect of membrane environment on the function of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) using solution NMR and double electron-electron resonance EPR spectroscopy. The NIH is the world’s largest medical research facility, and the Laboratory of Chemical Physics is a collaborative and exciting research environment.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. A full package of Civil Service benefits is available including retirement, health and life insurance, long-term care insurance, leave and savings plan (401 (k) equivalent). Appointments for this position are made as Staff Scientist and are open to all sources. The position is based in Bethesda, Maryland.

Qualifications:

Qualifications for this position include a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral biomedical/biophysics research experience. A strong publication record using the skills described below is required. Candidates must have extensive experience with expression and purification of membrane proteins for structural studies, reconstitution of GPCRs in both lipid micelles and nanodiscs, and extensive experience in both multidimensional triple resonance NMR spectroscopy and DEER EPR spectroscopy, molecular biology and protein engineering. Expertise with both Bruker NMR and EPR equipment is required.

To Apply:

Interested candidates should submit a current C.V., Bibliography, a 1-page research statement (including why they are interested in the position and how it fits into their career plans) and names of three references to Dr. Marius Clore at mariusc@mail.nih.gov .
