Post-doctoral Position in Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery

The laboratory of Daniel Flaherty in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Purdue University is seeking qualified candidates to fill an opening for postdoctoral research associate in the areas of organic and medicinal chemistry to support drug discovery efforts on NIH funded projects focused on development of new antibiotics for drug resistant bacteria.

Experience

Position responsibilities will include: small molecule synthesis and characterization, structure-based analog design, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and laboratory management. Required experience includes organic reaction design and execution, chromatography, spectroscopic evaluation of molecules (NMR, Mass Spec, HPLC). Other responsibilities include data analysis, maintaining a laboratory notebook, assisting graduate students in organic chemistry, and manuscript preparation. Additional qualifications and laboratory techniques that are that fit the projects in the lab but not required include experience with any of the following: biochemical and binding analysis of small molecules (i.e. SPR, MST, ITC, or BLI), cell culture, knowledge of proteomic profiling/data analysis, and structure-based design. The candidate would join a vibrant research team in a lab that has affiliations and access to world class equipment from all Life Science Institutes on Purdue’s campus including the Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery, Purdue Center for Cancer Research, Purdue Institute of Inflammation, Immunology and Infectious Disease and the Purdue Institute for Integrative Neurosciences. The position offers a competitive salary commensurate upon experience plus benefits and is contingent upon meeting progress milestones. The successful applicant will be assessed for productivity on a bi-annual basis with the option of yearly renewal if agreed upon by both parties.

Education

The ideal candidate would have a PhD degree (or expected PhD) with experience in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry.
