All About You

PI: Anutosh Chakraborty (Anutosh.chakraborty@health.slu.edu )

Department: Pharmacology and Physiology

An NIH-supported postdoctoral position is immediately available for an exceptionally motivated and creative individual in the laboratory of Dr. Anutosh Chakraborty at Saint Louis University, Missouri. The Chakraborty lab aims to understand molecular mechanisms that regulate the development and progression of obesity, insulin resistance, and NAFLD/NASH. The goal of the lab is to develop new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of these diseases. Prior work from the lab established that the enzyme inositol hexakisphosphate kinase-1 is a pharmacologic target in metabolic diseases.

Recent studies from the lab strongly indicate that the E3 ubiquitin ligase Ube4A is a novel regulator of obesity, insulin resistance, and NAFLD/NASH. The fellow is expected to determine the impact of deletion and overexpression of Ube4A on diet-induced obesity and NAFLD/NASH in mice. He/she will be comparing diverse metabolic and hepatotoxicity parameters between these groups. He/she should be able to perform various injection procedures and perfusion in mice and collect tissues from those animals. Moreover, he/she will be determining the impact of deletion and overexpression of Ube4A on the metabolism and survival of hepatocytes in vitro and in vivo. The fellow will also perform biochemical experiments to identify and validate ubiquitination targets of Ube4A in cell metabolism and survival.

Candidates with a solid background in mouse models of obesity/NASH, cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry, evidenced by a strong publication record in these areas, are encouraged to apply.
