All About You

The laboratory of Dr. Tinghai Xu is located in the prestigious Edward A. Doisy Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Our lab is dedicated to investigating the intricate interplay among DNA methylation, histone modification, and chromatin remodeling, and exploring their profound implications for human diseases. By employing multidisciplinary approaches that incorporate structural and cell biological techniques, we aim to unravel the complex crosstalk between these epigenetic mechanisms and their pivotal role in disease pathogenesis. Our ultimate goal is to leverage our understanding of the mechanisms and regulations of DNA methylation on chromatin in order to pave the way for innovative therapeutic interventions in cancer treatment.

We are currently seeking highly motivated and independent postdoctoral fellows with a recent Ph.D. degree in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. The primary focus of these positions is to uncover the mysteries of mammalian DNA methylation in the context of chromatin using advanced structural biology and cell biology techniques. Candidates are expected to work both independently and collaboratively, including but not limited to designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, writing and publishing manuscripts, assisting in grant applications, and mentoring junior scientists/students in the lab. While experience in structural biology is preferred, it is not required. Candidates will have the opportunity to acquire proficiency in state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) technology, X-ray crystallography, and in-solution structural investigations. This comprehensive training encompasses all aspects of the research process, from sample preparation, data collection and processing, to structure determination and refinement.

To be considered for these positions, candidates should meet the following qualifications:

  • Ph. D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or biology-related field.
  • Experience in constructs designs, PCR, mutagenesis, molecular cloning, and protein-protein interactions.
  • Experience in protein engineering, expression, purification, and biochemically characterization.
  • Experience in bacterial, insect, and mammalian cell culture.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to assist in training and mentoring lab personnel, including graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Ability to maintain effective communication with lab leader and members.
  • Structural biology experience and DNA methylation experience would be a plus.
  • Bioinformatics experience would be a plus.

We encourage candidates who fulfill these qualifications and demonstrate a passion for scientific research to apply for these positions. These postdoctoral positions provide a dynamic and stimulating environment, offering opportunities for professional growth and the development of expertise in structural and cell biology techniques.
