Postdoctoral Research Associate: Social Vulnerability to Natural Hazards

The Center for Policy Research on Energy and the Environment at Princeton University invites applications for postdoctoral or more senior researchers to conduct research on quantitative indicators of social vulnerability to natural hazards, such as hurricanes and floods. Initially, this work will include effort on a one-year research project using uncertainty and sensitivity analyses to assess robustness in social vulnerability index construction. The project will culminate in a practical policy recommendation for the Texas Water Development Board and a published manuscript in a scholarly journal. The larger objective of this research is to create and evaluate geospatial indicators that are deployed to reduce social inequity in hazard mitigation. The position reports to Professor Eric Tate at Princeton University and will collaborate with Dr. Patrick Bixler at the University of Texas and Dr. David Folch at Northern Arizona University. The appointment will be through the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. The appointment is for one year, and may be renewed pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. A PhD is required in a related field (e.g., geography, data science, urban planning, sociology, environmental engineering). Ideal applicants will have: *Expertise with scientific computer programming in languages such as R and Python *Experience conducting statistical and spatial analyses *Formal training or experience applying quantitative and spatial methods to human-environment questions *Excellent academic writing and communication skills in English Salary and full employee benefits are offered in accordance with University guidelines.
