The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Post Doctor to join its Division of Orthodontics. This is a temporary, grant funded position. The Orthodontics Division provides excellent, comprehensive orthodontic treatment for all ages. The orthodontic faculty members are leaders in their profession, and you will work with respected clinicians and educators work along with our orthodontic resident to provide the best care to our patients.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented person enthusiastic about basic science to join a team-based laboratory studying bone biology and dental implant system. This position will perform laboratory experiments and activities including: imaging analysis based on microcomputed tomography and cone beam computed tomography, anatomy, dissection, histology of dental implant-bone construct, mouse, rat, pig, and dog, cell culture, animal care, dynamic mechanical analysis, and computer-based data analysis. This position will support and contribute to multiple projects in the laboratory setting, with opportunities to work with and train other lab members. Lastly, this position will present collected data at lab meetings and in one-on-one meetings with the lab director and contribute figures and text to scientific posters and publications by laboratory members.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Physical Requirements: The body must be able to bend, stoop and reach in order to perform many procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); equipment; and use of sharp instruments. Occasional work during evenings and weekends may be required.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
Required: A Bachelor's degree in a biological/health science or engineering, or equivalent experience. Basic skills in the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required.
Desired: A Master’s or Doctoral degree in a biological/health science or engineering with minimum of 1 year laboratory experience as an undergraduate student or in a professional position. Knowledge of and/or willingness to perform laboratory techniques, including: use of laboratory mice, rats, pigs, and dogs, mouse colony maintenance, histology and related approaches, calculating and making chemical reagents and solutions, molecular biology, cell culture, computer technologies, scientific reading/writing, and keeping organized and detailed laboratory notebooks.
Performs experiments, preparation of graphs and reports, participates in publications, participates in the developments of new processes, prepares data sets and conducts data analysis in support of project goals, participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies.

By the start of employment, all newly hired employees must receive at least the first dose of a two-dose series or a single dose of a one19-dose series COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who choose a two-dose series vaccination must receive the second dose within 45 days of their start date. Proof of vaccination will be required at time of hire.

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is 42,700 to 56,000, commensurate with education and experience.
