Posting Summary
The primary purpose of the Visiting Research Scholar position is to work under the direction of the principal investigator. The visiting researcher will work in the field of Genomics and Cell Biology within the Division of Cancer Biology. The primary objective of the project is to enhance our understanding of the impact of mosaic somatic chromosome aneuploidy on tissue degeneration and its potential contribution to disease risk. This will be achieved through the utilization of vertebrate animal models and in vitro culture models.
The visiting researcher will be responsible for inducing aneuploidy in the mammary gland or brain of mice using a lineage tracing system, which enables the monitoring of aneuploid cell fate. By generating and studying these unique models, the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of somatic aneuploidy on cellular and tissue function will be elucidated. The research activities will be conducted primarily in a wet lab setting and will involve various molecular methodologies such as qRT-PCR, FACS, IHC, IF, Western Blotting, Cell Culture analysis, and global transcriptomics, among others.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • Works under the direction of the principal investigator. 
  • Perform functional and mechanistic studies and experiments that are proposed in the grant, in the areas of Cell and Cancer Biology, specifically to monitor and analyze the fate of aneuploid cells in the generated models. 
  • Contribute research expertise generate results to understand aneuploidy, aneuploidy induced genomic instability; collaborate with other team members; maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and observations. 
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills and ability to publish scientific research papers/articles and written reports and oral presentations of research experiments. Incumbent expected to contribute to scholarly activity to present research in high-impact publications, patent applications, and conference presentations.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master of Science in human physiology and/or cellular biology or related field.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are required.

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is also essential. 
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

INTERRELATIONSHIPS: Interaction with RUTGERS, RWJMS, CINJ, and RWJUH management, administrative, clinical and laboratory staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in mouse handling and tissue processing.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Lab environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
