Postdoctoral Researcher in High-energy and Multi-messenger Astrophysics

Job Description

We seek an outstanding candidate to join the Particle Astrophysics group at the Michigan State University Department of Physics and Astronomy to work on multi-messenger astrophysics and high-energy astrophysics. Michigan State hosts a growing program in particle astrophysics, including efforts on IceCube, HAWC TeV gamma ray and various X-ray observatories. The group benefits from close connections to high energy physics groups working on T2K, NOvA and ATLAS and extensive technical infrastructure available in the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to X-ray and gamma-ray observations of PeVatron candidates, including supermassive black holes, supernova remnants and pulsar wind nebula. Candidates with strong data analysis backgrounds in observational X-ray, gamma-ray, radio or optical are encouraged to apply. Expertise in neutrino physics is welcome but not required. The candidate will also have the opportunity of contributing to the other projects of the group, including IceCube data analysis, R&D for next generation neutrino detector P-One, as well as possible additional work on detection and analysis of millimeter-band transients with SPT and CMB-S4. The appointment will be initially for two years with the expectation of a third-year renewal subject to mutual agreement.

Applicants should submit (1) a CV, including a publication list, (2) a statement of research interests and experience, (3) at least three references at https://careers.msu.edu , position # 852254.

Review of applications will begin on August 1, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. MSU is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.
