Scientist - Betthauser Neuroimaging Lab

Job Description

Job Summary:

The Betthauser Neuroimaging Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our rapidly growing team as a Scientist to support a 5-year federally-funded R01 project examining multi-cohort factors that influence Alzheimer's disease biomarker and dementia timing using existing data. Our lab highly values team science, a positive work environment, and a diversity of backgrounds, approaches, and competencies of coworkers and the populations we serve. Dr. Tobey Betthauser is the lab principal investigator and an investigator in the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and the Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR). The lab develops and applies novel modeling methods to neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, to understand the timing of disease processes, the factors that contribute to when disease begins, and how this timing might relate to clinical symptoms and postmortem confirmation of brain pathology. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who foster and promote the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion and who are looking to grow with Dr. Betthauser's research program.
Principal Duties:
This scientist will work directly with Dr. Betthauser, staff, and students, and will play an integral role in leading, performing, and presenting scientific research using mid- to large (2,000-10,000 participant) multi-cohort datasets to facilitate aging and dementia research in the Betthauser Lab. They will be proficient in one or more programming languages to conduct data curation, summary, processing, and analysis. They will publish research findings in peer-reviewed manuscripts, write and revise conference abstracts, and present research findings at local, national, and international events and conferences. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing scientific support to lab staff and students, including mentorship of postdoctoral and graduate student trainees with Dr. Betthauser.
Experience with aging and dementia research, brain neuroimaging including volumetric magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and/or positron emission tomography (PET), and/or analyzing neuropsychology, neuroimaging, and/or fluid biomarker data is preferred, but not required.
SMPH is committed to being a diverse, equitable, inclusive and anti-racist workplace and is an Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer. Applications from Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) individuals, LGBTQ+ and non-binary identities, women, persons with disabilities, military service members and veterans are strongly encouraged.
