Job Description


Position Description:

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow interested in tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy for basic and translational research in the laboratory of Dr. Xue Zhong Yu. A qualified candidate is expected to have a strong publication record and excellent references from PhD or postdoctoral research. He or she should be proficient in flow cytometry, working with rodents in the field of Immunology, and experienced in molecular biology and cell culture.

Yu Lab Research Description 

The researchers in Yu’s Lab have been focusing on two lines of basic and translational studies:

1) Treatment of hematologic malignancies with allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT)

2) Treatment of solid tumors with adoptive T-cell therapy (ACT).  

  • Uncovering the mechanisms of immune activation and tolerance in graft-versus-host and graft-versus-tumor responses after allogeneic HCT
  • Understanding the impact of gut microbiota on intestinal homeostasis and host immunity
  • Investigating T-cell metabolism to discover novel biomarkers for the early diagnosis of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and to identify new therapeutic targets in metabolic process
  • Defining molecular mechanisms of T-cell mediated anti-tumor response

Primary Functions 

  • Plan, design and execute complex research studies, procedures and protocols.
  • Participate in discovery projects.
  • Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
  • Oversee organization, synthesis and analysis of data and findings.
  • Prepare scientific reports, outcome findings and scientific manuscripts. 
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff in which you will evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, and design and evaluate lab procedures.
  • Maintain supplies, may require negotiation with vendors, and track purchase orders.
  • May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction, delegation and establishing priorities.

Preferred Schedule:
M-F 8-5

Position Requirements:

Minimum Required Education: PhD in biomedical field

Minimum Required Experience: Documented skill set in flow cytometry, cell culture, rodent husbandry, and procedures; proven record of productivity evidenced by publications

Preferred Education: PhD in microbiology, Immunology, Cell Biology, and/or Molecular Biology

Preferred Experience: Working with pathogens at BSL-2 or higher level

Required knowledge: proficiency in flow cytometry, demonstrated experience working with rodents in the field of tumor immunology, molecular biology and cell culture; knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, documentation, records management, data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills
