Dr. Casey Cazer, Associate Hospital Director for the Small Animal Community Practice at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral associate in the field of educational research.

The postdoctoral associate will collaborate with clinical faculty and curriculum leaders to identify best practices in higher education that can be implemented at Cornell to improve our clinical veterinary curriculum. This could include conducting structured literature reviews, scoping reviews, and systematic reviews of clinical education topics. The postdoctoral associate will help faculty implement best practices within clinical rotations, ranging from an advisory to a hands-on role, for example, creating assessments or learning activities. The postdoctoral associate will conduct novel research on clinical education methods under the supervision of Dr. Cazer, including designing research studies, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting and publishing results. Our areas of interest include student competency outcomes, student engagement, and the impact of instructional methodologies on learning. There will be opportunities to develop independently driven projects in veterinary education. Qualified candidates will have opportunities to supervise graduate, veterinary, and/or undergraduate research students.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct novel research on teaching techniques and approaches to advance veterinary clinical education

• Contribute to creating a clinical curriculum that supports student learning and excellence with a foundation of evidence-based pedagogy

• Draft manuscripts and publish results in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals

• Present results at conferences and seminars

• Contribute to developing and writing grant proposals

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Education or a related discipline, or a Doctor of Education (Ed.D), or a health professional doctorate (e.g., DVM, MD) with substantial experience in educational research or pedagogy.

• Experience with designing educational research studies and analyzing educational data. Preference for experience with quantitative and qualitative research.

• Experience in veterinary or medical education specifically is not required.

• Must be able to work independently and as part of a diverse, interdisciplinary team.

• Strong analytic and written communication skills are required.

• Proficiency in a data analysis software (e.g., R, STATA, SAS) preferred

This is a 1-year, full-time appointment with a potential for extension contingent on successful performance. Salary will be commensurate with experience and align with the NIH post-doctoral payscale. This position is anticipated to start in the fall of 2023.
