The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society is located in Tupelo, Mississippi. We provide emergency care, shelter, and rehabilitation to abandoned, unwanted, and neglected animals in our city and county. Our mission is to promote humane treatment, prevent cruelty, provide education, and end pet overpopulation. Our motto is “Until Every Cage is Empty” and we are committed to working tirelessly to that end.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director is the dynamic liaison between the TLHS Board of Directors, the shelter and clinic staff, and the community. The E.D. is expected to execute both key administrative, financial, managerial, and supervisory responsibilities, as well as to lead the development of strategic plans that propel the organization forward to achieving the TLHS mission and goals.

This is a full-time salaried position. Below is a non-inclusive list of responsibilities.

SHELTER OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE
1. Manages the shelter in accordance with established professional standards for humane facilities; ensures that the facility operation is compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintains shelter records and statistics that include, but are not limited to, animal population, adoption, euthanasia, transport and foster program. Prepares management reports and other documentation as needed for board meetings and stewardship to local government, as requested.
3. In conjunction with the Medical Director, develops, implements, and manages animal care programs and work methods according to best industry practices. Establishes benchmarks for quality and quantity of humane care and evaluates program and services performance relative to benchmarks.
4. Oversees facility and property maintenance and appearance and recommends repairs and capital improvements based on attaining the TLHS mission and goals.


STAFF LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT
1. Supervises Management Team and delegates responsibilities to empower staff leadership; optimize operations while providing guidance and encouragement.
2. Oversees the hiring process to continually upgrade the capability of the organization.
3. Fosters teamwork, creativity, and innovation to meet TLHS goals.
4. Establishes customer service standards to ensure excellence in public interactions and promote positive perception of TLHS.

PUBLIC RELATIONS
1. Participates in and supports special events, humane education, outreach, and fundraisers as needed.
2. Builds, coordinates, and evaluates strategic partnerships with other shelters, rescues, and key donor organizations and individuals.
3. Represents TLHS with consistent, timely, and professional public interactions.
4. Oversees online marketing and community education and appeals.

FINANCE
1. Prepares an annual budget for submission to the Board of Directors for its consideration and approval.
2. Monitors income and expenses and works within the budget limitations set and approved by the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
1. Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience in leading an organization.
2. Passion for animal welfare.
3. Experience with strategic and operational planning.
4. Understanding of financial management and accounting principles.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Ability to set priorities, provide leadership to staff and community, and adapt to immediate and unforeseen challenges.
7. Proficient computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.

ADDITIONAL DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Prior experience working with a nonprofit board of directors.
2. Prior experience working with an animal welfare organization (paid or volunteer)

Commensurate with qualifications and experience
