Summary of Job Duties:

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be part of a highly collaborative team that generates and analyzes population genomic data of fish and wildlife species to inform management efforts and guide conservation strategies. Specifically, the Postdoctoral Fellow will develop customs bioinformatics solutions that integrate Machine Learning (ML) into population genomic analyses, expand predictive models by incorporating evolutionary and ecological processes, create complex neural network models to expand existing spatial analyses, and convert these novel approaches into user-friendly software applications.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to several funded projects, help complete ongoing long-term projects, take the lead in manuscript writing, and aid in development of proposal for new projects.
One major focus will be development of bioinformatics workflows for predictive spatial analyses of White-tailed Deer in Arkansas, as part of the funded project “Developing Genetic Approaches for Sustainable Long-Term Monitoring and Modeling CWD Spread in White-Tailed Deer”. A second focus will be development of software packages that simplifies high-dimensional data into a probabilistic, field-deployable key for species and hybrid identification, as an follow-up to a currently funded project “Genomic and Geometric Morphometric Diversity in Smallmouth Bass and their Admixtures Within the Interior Highlands of North America”. A third focus will be planning and statistical design of new projects.
Tasks:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the following tasks:
A. Customize bioinformatics solutions that integrating Machine Learning into population genomic analyses.
B. Expand analytical frameworks for predictive modeling of spatial and temporal population trends.
C. Innovate novel models to integrate genomic, ecological, and spatial data.
D. Customize bioinformatics pipelines to simplify landscape and riverscape network analyses.
E. Contribute to project planning, sample processing, genomic data generation and analysis.
F. Synthesize and visualize project findings in reports aimed at non-technical audiences.
G. Disseminate research progress via presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Duties:
Job duties also include:
A. Project planning, task prioritization, and coordination.
B. Proposal and manuscript development.
C. Supervision and training of students and technical staff.
E. Administration and management of genetic, ecological and morphometrics databases.
F. Maintenance and updating of computational resources.
G. General lab administration.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biology Sciences with focus on comparative population genomics conferred by start date

  • Experience Post-PhD in academia or industry as bioinformatics developer/analyst

  • Experience in statistical analyses applicable to conservation and management

  • Experience in development of bioinformatics software using machine learning

  • Experience in data visualization, web development and cloud computing

  • Experience in disseminating research to diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. and M.S. in Biology, Ecology or Evolutionary Biology

  • Established programming proficiency in Unix, Python, and R

  • Proven data science skills and familiarity with various software packages

  • Documented skills in GIS analysis and data visualization for population genomic data

  • Strong track record of publishing research

  • Capacity to work as part of a collaborative team or independently

  • Demonstrated effectiveness with project coordination and task prioritization

  • Perceptive maturity with student mentoring and staff supervision


Additional Information:

This is a 3-year appointment, annually renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.
 



Salary Information:


$62,000
