The School of Medicine is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Cell Biology and Genetics team in the Bankaitis Lab. The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general supervision, is responsible for applying atomistic Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to uncover the molecular mechanisms of protein recruitment to membranes and the dynamics associated with lipid binding. The focus will be specifically on protein systems that are involved in signal transduction at the membrane surface.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Other Requirements and Factors: Must be able to interface directly with the HPRC regarding computational issues/problems.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate doctoral degree.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with using GROMACS software for simulation of large biomolecular systems; experience in using Python for scientific software programming; and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience/knowledge working in laboratory setting.

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, or a related field.

  • Strong skills in navigating protein structural data sets


Responsibilities:

  • Molecular Research Analysis: Uses computational approaches to describe protein: drug interactions and use computational methods for rational drug design with specified targets and defined chemical scaffolds. Develops simulations to uncover the molecular mechanics of protein recruitment to membranes. Performs data and statistical analysis of first-hand and second datasets in collaboration with staff/students, or with collaborators and their research teams.

  • Application of Molecular Dynamics: Applies atomistic Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations approaches, including setting up complex systems for MD and analysis of the data. Performs independent research activities using molecular dynamics and specified research targets and other forces relating to lab research.

  • Research Presentations: Prepares Research Presentation targeted to Molecular Dynamics .

  • Lab Duties: Completes general lab duties. Maintains clean lab space. Maintains and stocks chemicals and lab supplies. Performs other duties as assigned which might include, but are not limited to, GROMACS software updates, computer maintenance/organization, solutions in data storage, data presentation in lab meetings, etc.
