Position Summary:
 
The UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Physiology & Biophysics is dedicated to conducting innovative, cutting-edge research, engaging in high-level service and providing excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows and residents in the discipline of physiology and biophysics.
 
Under close supervision, the Lab Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the vaccine related projects. This position provides general support to senior scientists with laboratory procedures such as carrying out protein microarray probing and immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry on cell culture. With assistance and/or supervision, the Lab Assistant will perform standard molecular biology techniques including but not limited to PCR, agarose and acrylamide gel electrophoresis of proteins and DNA, preparing, and maintaining stocks of plasmid DNA, molecular cloning, Western and other protocols as required as general support for lab projects. The Lab Assistant will be responsible for assisting with mouse bleeding, as well as dosing, euthanasia, and tissue collection. The position will also require providing technical and administrative support for lab management and inventory of freezers.

$19.02 - $22.05 (Hourly Rate)


 


Required:
 
Experience with common microbiology techniques such as plasmid mini preps. Basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Bachelor’s degree in cell biology, molecular biology, or related field
 
 
Experience with common microbiology techniques, molecular biology, and biochemistry techniques. Experience with protein microarrays, initial data analysis, computer skills Experience with working with animals.


 


Special Conditions Required:
 
Check on mice colony over weekends as needed.
