Dr. Richard Ainsworth, PhD is looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join a diverse team!

Dr. Ainsworth's collaborative work includes developing personalized treatment strategies in rheumatoid arthritis and the characterization of epigenetic reorganization in the frontal cortex of individuals with schizophrenia.

The Kao Autoimmunity Institute is committed to translational and clinical research that will advance the treatment of rheumatologic diseases. The Kao Autoimmunity Institute brings together clinicians, investigators and allied health professionals from a variety of disciplines across Cedars-Sinai and its affiliated hospitals and care sites. The Kao Autoimmunity Institute envisions a far-reaching impact on patient health and clinical outcomes for autoimmune diseases.

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator in the Kao Autoimmunity Institute and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist will develop and apply bioinformatics methods to analyze and interpret multi-omics data. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May assist in preparation of grant proposals.
  • May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Designs and performs experiments.
  • Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation, and analyze the results.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
  • May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.

Education:

  • Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization required.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, and implement computational, mathematical, and statistical algorithms and methods for the analysis of multimodal biomedical data.
  • Proficiency in scientific writing having published in more than one of the areas mentioned as well as experience with algorithm development/application.
  • Knowledge of (or interest in) autoimmune disease (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus) and an understanding of gene regulation and its modeling is highly preferred.
  • Acquires technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.

Physical Demands:

Able to perform moderate lifting. Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Able ot read papers and online documents. Able to operate standard office equipment. Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
