Position Highlights The Department of Surgery is recruiting for an Research Assistant Professor. This position will work under the direction of Dr. Bellal Joseph.

The incumbent will serve as an instructor by teaching courses with the College of Public Health which includes creating and designing course plans and lessons to teach students health promotion sciences, and public health policy and management using the knowledge of Conducting Geriatric Trauma Research; Higher Education Teaching in the Field of Public Health; Clinical and Qualitative Health Research; and Grants Writing and Project Management. The position requires a PhD in Public Health, or foreign equivalent. This position is non-security sensitive and requires a name-based criminal background check.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Department of Surgery research focus areas and connect faculty with funding specific opportunities. Monitor, analyze and disseminate funding information that is specific to the individual research focus areas of DoS faculty.
  • Serves as an instructor by teaching course(s) with the College of Public Health.
  • Training and supervision of undergraduate students, medical students, graduate students as well as junior post-doctoral fellows.
  • Work with junior faculty, residents, fellows, and medical students on IRB, qualitative research, and data analysis. Will also provide mentoring in these areas.
  • Lead, contribute and participate in authorship of research publications and presentations.
  • Collect, analyze and graph data, conclude research projects in a timely manner, and write reports, manuscripts, and grants.
  • Develop research projects in addition to their primary research.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Public Health, or foreign equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience. 
Preferred Qualifications *Ability to manage multiple projects. *Strong technical writing and editing skills. *Knowledge of university procedures/policies regarding Sponsored Projects and IRB. *Computer literate in all critical programs (Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and Publisher) and the aptitude to learn new software as necessary for grant writing, presentations, fiscal management and website/brochure creation. *Grant writing and management skills in order to oversee NIH partnerships. *Experience assisting with the preparation of scientific manuscripts to publish results of research. *Excellent communication and writing skills for manuscript, grant submissions, publications, and NIH reports. *At least five years of work experience with an academic medical institution. *Experience teaching in the College of Public Health.
