Position Description:

The Quantum Nanophotonic Materials lab (https://folland.lab.uiowa.edu/ ) at the University of Iowa is recruiting for a postdoctoral researcher in nanofabrication and nanophotonics. The postdoctoral researcher would be employed as part of the ‘Emergent light-matter interactions through twisted atomic and photonics crystals’ program. This program is a multi-university research initiative which is conducted in collaboration with researchers from Stanford, Minnesota, and Vanderbilt, we seek to understand the fundamental limits of twist as a degree of freedom in optics. The Iowa team is leading efforts to fabricate multi-layer 2D and 3D structures, understand the dispersion of these materials, and develop lasers based on these structures. As part of this, we will be developing new techniques for device fabrication, image recognition for 2D material identification, and mapping optical dispersions using spectroscopic tools. Primary responsibilities for the position would be the fabrication of twisted 2D and metamaterial structures, and testing using optical spectroscopic techniques, including FTIR cryo-Microscopy and thermal emission spectroscopy.  These experiments will be conducted between facilities available in the Folland lab, the Iowa MatFAB, and partner institutions.
