Job Description

Dean College's School of Business is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Financial Accounting during the Fall 2023 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

 

 

We are seeking an adjunct instructor for ACCT 103: Financial Accounting. ACCT 103 is a 3-credit class that meets for 2.5 hours/week. The adjunct pay rate is $3,300/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Business program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.

 

 

The course description is as follows: An introduction to the fundamental principles and basic concepts of financial accounting. Emphasis is placed on understanding financial statements used by corporations. Concepts to be studied include transaction analysis, accounts receivable, inventory, long-lived assets, revenue recognition, long-term liabilities, and stockholders' equity. The course stresses the use of financial statement information in business decisions.

 

 

There is one ACCT 103 section available. It is scheduled to meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM.


Job Requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in Accounting or a related field is required; Ph.D. in a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the college level in person is required; experience teaching first-year undergraduates is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills are required. Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required.
  • Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools are required.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system and classroom media is required.
  • Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required. Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
