Director of Admissions and Recruitment

MƒA has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Admissions and Recruitment to join our team. MƒA is a nonprofit that operates a fellowship program for math and science teachers in NYC. Our four-year fellowships provide outstanding NYC public school STEM teachers with ongoing, self-directed opportunities for professional learning and growth as well as up to $60,000 in stipends. Our fellowship program encourages great STEM teachers to lead from the classroom, using what they learn in the MƒA community to benefit their students, schools, communities, and the profession at large.

The director of admissions and recruitment will oversee all aspects of our annual fellowship admissions and recruitment efforts, which sustain and support MƒA’s community of nearly 1,000 teachers working in more than 300 schools across all five boroughs of NYC.

The director of admissions and recruitment reports to the Chief Operating Officer, leads a team of two staff members and works in close collaboration with all directors to ensure that our recruitment and selection efforts are executed in coordination with the work of other teams and aligned with MƒA’s mission, values, and operating goals.

MƒA’s recruitment and selection processes aim to attract a diverse pool of collegial and collaborative teachers looking to deepen their knowledge and skills related to STEM content, teaching craft, and reaching students. MƒA strives to nurture a professional community through its fellowships that allow teachers to communicate effectively across their many differences to foster innovation and improvement in our education system.

The director of admissions and recruitment position is a unique opportunity for an experienced STEM educator and leader to think deeply about how to identify, select, and support exceptional teachers to become a part of the MƒA teacher community while broadly impacting STEM education in NYC. The director also serves as a key representative of the organization to potential applicants and their schools and is responsible for managing relationships with partner organizations and schools.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee, iteratively improve, and execute MƒA’s rigorous, multi-step selection process for our flagship Master Teacher Fellowship and renewal (Master Teacher II+) applications
  • Oversee selection processes for programs that MƒA teachers participate in with partner organizations
  • Oversee the selection process for the annual MƒA Muller Award
  • Design, implement, execute, and evaluate an annual recruitment plan focused on diversifying and expanding MƒA’s fellowship applicant pool
  • Ensure equity and inclusion are considered and pursued in each step of MƒA’s admissions and recruitment efforts
  • Lead, supervise, and support the admissions and recruitment team of two MƒA staff
  • Collaborate with other directors and staff on cross-functional initiatives such as recruitment advertising campaigns and summer orientation for new fellows

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience, including:5+ years of STEM teaching experience

3+ years of experience leading teams in a supervisory role

  • Previous experience in admissions or recruitment a plus but not required
  • Experience leading professional development for STEM teachers
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to collect, analyze, and share data to inform decision-making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Committed and passionate about work related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
