Overview
Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Coordinator in Vets4Warriors Call Center for Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
Under supervision, supervises all the day-to-day aspects of the Vets4Warriors program, represents Vets4Warriors at events and act as the liaison to funding agencies, State and National military representatives, collaborating agencies, and referrals sources as needed and/or required by this position. Supervises the activities and staff of Vets4Warriors serving veterans, active duty, National Guard and Reserve Service Members, family members and caregivers. Ensures the quality of the telephone-based counseling and crisis interventions are provided. Ensures compliance with relevant funding agency and regulatory agency requirements.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Participates as a key member of the management team and is responsible for overseeing, managing and preparing documentation needed by the program and National Call Center leadership.
  • Assists in the day-to-day operation of the Telephone Helplines serving veterans and active duty military personnel.
  • Plans, trains and supervises the work of others engaged in professional and paraprofessional delivery of program specific services.
  • Monitors staff performance which includes minimally meeting biannually with assigned staff to review performance goals and compliance with mandatory continuing education requirements.
  • Addresses staff performance issues via progressive discipline as outlined by Human Resource policies.
  • Oversees, manages and prepares paperwork and documentation needed by UBHC and external funding agencies and the Federal Government.
  • Serves as liaison within the collaborating agencies, external funding sources, and other departments within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends of telephonic helpline services.
  • Recruits Telephone Helpline staff members who are military veterans.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in a mental health discipline.
  • Four (4) years of experience in the behavioral health field.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Licensure to practice as required by New Jersey State laws governing the discipline. 
  • Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer and word processing skills.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and communications skills are required.
  • Must be available to occasionally work an off hour’s shift which may include weekends, overnights or evenings.
  • Travel throughout the United States may be necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of prior supervisory experience . 
  • Veteran with Active Duty combat experience or family member of a veteran.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: Frequent prolonged sitting. Frequent listening and talking in groups as well as on the telephone. Travel around the country. Lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Handles phone requests under time and decision-making pressure. Generally pleasant working conditions in a clean, well-lighted, and quiet to moderately loud setting.
