Postdoctoral Research Associate

Job Description

About the Opportunity

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in Prof. Qimin Yan's research group in the Department of Physics.

Prof. Qimin Yan's group develops computational and data-driven approaches to understand and design novel quantum phases and functional materials for quantum information science and technologies, including defect-based qubit design, quantum sensing, and quantum computing. We use first-principles computations to understand structure-property correlations and use them to design novel quantum phases in both bulk and two-dimensional materials. We develop machine learning frameworks based on state-of-the-art AI technologies that are specially designed for understanding quantum phenomena in complex material systems to accelerate the discovery and design of quantum materials for technology applications.

Responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will perform independent research in the field of two-dimensional materials and their heterojunctions for quantum information and energy conversion applications. The candidate will work together with external collaborators, guide graduate students, and disseminate the results in conferences and high-profile journal articles.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will:

1) Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and experiments

2) Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant proposals

3) Maintain laboratory

4) Train graduate students

Qualifications:

PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science is required. The candidate is expected to have extensive research experience with data-driven approaches for materials discovery and design. Experience with Python programming, high-throughput computations, database management, and first-principles materials simulations are required. Fundamental understanding in quantum phenomena related to the ground and excited states of two-dimensional material heterojunction systems are beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in electronic structures and the excited-state properties of two-dimensional materials is highly desirable.
