POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 


The School Programs Specialist is a full-time non-exempt employee of The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands. The position is responsible for development and implementation, in coordination with the Director of Sunnylands Center and Gardens.

The School Programs Specialist is expected to share in the strategic long-term vision of the Trust and contribute to the growth of the Trust from both a tactical perspective in the day-to-day operations of the Trust and more importantly, from a strategic, long-term planning perspective, helping to bring innovation and efficiency to this aspect of the Trust.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Education:

 


  • Supports the functions of the Director of Sunnylands Center and Gardens.
  • Conducts research related to education programs, tours, and interpretive materials.
  • Develops school programming that meets state benchmarks and standards in both English and Spanish.
  • Creates and distributes educational materials, publications, ticketing, guest lists, and signage for school-based education programs.
  • Oversees program site and space logistics, including physical set-up of all necessary program spaces and lecture facilities for onsite school-based programs.
  • Responsible for communication with school districts and teachers for school site programs.
  • Responsible for communication with support staff including operations and Center & Gardens for onsite programs.
  • Responsible for hourly-staff scheduling and work assignments during school-based programs.
  • Responsible for communicating with and scheduling contracted instructors for school-based programs.
  • Collects data, analyzes, and evaluates school-based programs for their educational value.
  • Makes oral presentations and instructs diverse audiences.
  • Provides translation services for Spanish language content for Education, Communications and Collections Departments.
  • Responsible for processing of departmental purchases and expense reporting to Director.
  • Resolve problems tactfully, courteously, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand and/or sit for long periods; talk and hear both in person and by telephone; and use hands and fingers to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, stoop, or bend and lift up to twenty five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work is performed in a professional office setting utilizing telephone, computer, and other office equipment. While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions, reads and interprets documents and information; use oral communication skills; interact with Trust staff, the general public, and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied, demanding and/or angry individuals. While performing duties in this position, the employee will work outdoors and may be exposed to wet and/or hot conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, sharp objects, and extreme heat. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The employee may operate a golf cart, shuttle, or motor vehicle.


SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Comfortable interacting and influencing primarily at the mid-level of an organization.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions, levels, and departments toward shared objectives.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities effectively, be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and be committed to excellence.
  • Must be highly organized and resourceful with a problem-solving acumen and professional demeanor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The School Programs Specialist Education Programs Coordinator will have the following experience:

  • 3+ years of experience developing, coordinating, and delivering programs to K-12 students.
  • Bachelor’s degree in museum education, teaching, or related field. Masters preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion for the Sunnylands mission; a hands-on person with impeccable integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Spanish preferred for materials translation.
