DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

College Access and Success AmeriCorps members will work directly with prospective and current college students to ensure college matriculation, retention and program completion.

  • Educate high school students at Kirkwood’s four regional centers on their funding options for AAS and diploma programs in the career academy areas including but not limited to Welding, Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics, Automotive Technologies, Auto Collision Repair and Restoration, CAD/Mechanical Engineering, and Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE).
  • Provide outreach and coordination at local high school trade meetings, events, and competitions Examples include, but are not limited to, high school welding competitions, electric car competitions, robotics clubs, and automotive technology repair competitions.
  • Provide a presence at local high school trade competitions where Kirkwood works with potential students. Examples include, but are not limited to, state high school welding competitions and local automotive technology repair competitions.
  • Visit with local high schools and homeschool programs to inform students of career opportunities within the industrial technology area.
  • Establishing office hours in the industrial technology building to allow current students the opportunity to seek clarification of their financial aid status.
  • Hosting walk-in hours in industrial tech labs in order to ensure students understand their own financial aid situation.
  • Connecting with program faculty to discuss ways students can maintain their financial aid eligibility and practice financial planning for the semester

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

 

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Certify that they have or will obtain the diploma/GED.
  • Be 17 years or older at the start of service (no upper age limit).
  • Pass a national service criminal history check prior to first day of service.
  • Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US national, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • FOR TUTORING PROGRAMS: include the basic qualifications for members serving as tutors from eCFR :: 45 CFR Part 2522 Subpart F - Program Management Requirements for Grantees
