Overview:
 

The Registry of Vital Records and Statistics (RVRS) is seeking an experienced health communications professional to assume the role of Health Communications Specialist. The candidate will support the content creation and dissemination of the RVRS’s communications activities. This position will work closely with RVRS leadership on a wide range of communication activities across the department, including website content development, reports, presentations, newsletters, social media, informational and educational materials. This position will ensure that all communication strategies are aligned with RVRS priorities and adhere to DPH policies and procedures to share and distribute with the public and key partners. The Health Communications Specialist will serve as a content expert and advisor for RVRS services and work across DPH departments and contacts to collect information for distribution and support the development and strategic efforts of creating messaging. The DPH Registry of Vital Records and Statistics (RVRS) touches virtually every Massachusetts resident. In addition to their most visible public function of recording over 71,000 births, 57,000 deaths and 40,000 marriages annually from which over 450,000 legally certified birth certificates, death certificates and marriage certificates are issued, the Registry contributes to almost every aspect of the Department’s work, and of the work of many other local, state and federal agencies - from legal, demographic and health data, to infrastructure, to customer service. Billions of dollars in federal and state funding depend on the information and legal documentation generated for the distribution of entitlements and the prevention of fraud, waste and abuse in critical services. RVRS’s stakeholder message is built on RVRS’s goal to provide exceptional customer service with advanced technology, custom training, and improved communication with its data partners and information providers. RVRS launched the Technology Modernization project with the goal of enhancing its technology platform and collaborating with stakeholders.
 

Minimum Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Health, health care or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of professional, related communications experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with various work teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing newsletters, websites, and social media content.
  • Ability to develop and support effective strategies to ensure a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success as a team player.
  • Ability to interact with individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with often shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and passion for innovative content and improvement.
  • Proficient use of different computer programs (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams).
 

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Project management skills.
  • Understanding of principles of public health communications.
 

Responsibilities:
 

  • Serve as the marketing and communications expert and lead in the development and implementation of printed and online publications including newsletters, fact sheets, websites, stakeholder communication and presentations.
  • Obtain edits, revisions, and approvals for written materials and online content and ensure they meet high quality standards. Provide support with the development of internal communication review processes and planning.
  • Support developing content for various digital media outlets, ensuring consistency across communication channels, and working within state requirements and guidelines.
  • Assist with development of educational and training materials.
  • Work with central DPH Communications team and external partners to develop effective opportunities for message planning, research, message development, and delivery.
  • Ensure communication activities are based on accepted principles, methods, and best practices.
  • Stay up to date with health communication best practices.
  • Complete assigned deliverables, including required reports, within established time frames.
  • Attend and contribute to key planning and coordination meetings.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Massachusetts Department of Public Health, in order to best support the State of Massachusetts in their public health programming.
