Job Title: Library Services Manager

Summary:
The purpose of this position is to supervise the daily activities of the library. This includes developing marketing strategies and maintaining the library website/catalog. The Manager collaborates regularly with campus counterpart in the college district. Management of the library budget and of electronic and print collections to support the college's curriculum, classroom teaching, and individual instruction.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervises library staff. Manages library physical space development and programming to maximize student study space and support student success.
  • Acquires, manages and discards materials to keep collections current, to support the college curriculum, and to facilitate various accreditations. Composes regular departmental, state and federal reports with library usage data to include use of research databases.
  • Consults with individuals and groups, providing reference and instruction services.
  • Markets the library to faculty, staff and students via newsletters, social media and class appearances. Serves on campus committees, attends supervisory roundtables and expanded leadership team meetings.
  • Teaches information literacy lessons in MCC courses. Maintains professional memberships, attends conferences and webinars to keep current with academic library trends.
  • Maintains library website, electronic and print journal subscriptions, and catalog.
  • Supervise test proctoring. Communicates to Plant Service of maintenance needs. Provide statistical information on library usage. Review processes on a regular basis to make sure library is running smoothly and effectively. Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: Completion of a Master’s Degree and 2 years of experience required.

Abilities: Knowledge of current academic library trends at the state and national level. Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems to include discovery layers. Knowledge of research database subscription options, and related consortia arrangements in the state to include State Library of Iowa programs. Knowledge of standard library cataloging and classification systems and procedures. Knowledge of organizational operations to include budgeting, purchasing and receiving. Knowledge of bibliographic styles to include those of the Modern Language Association and American Psychological Association. Knowledge of the Interlibrary Loan process at the state level for books. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite to include Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Reader and other software for instructional purposes. Knowledge of social media protocols to facilitate library marketing. Knowledge of Learning Management System to support instruction in a variety of subject area. Knowledge of data collection practices and analysis to facilitate institutional and departmental accreditations. Excellent written and oral communication skills including proficiency in business English, grammar, punctuation and spelling. Skill in budgeting to maximize financial resources. Skills in librarianship, such as those required to receive the Master of Library and Information Science, to facilitate best practices in the library and for cooperation with other libraries. Skill in classroom instruction to facilitate active learning and retention of material. Skill in communicating with and understanding the needs of faculty members. Ability to make independent decisions. Ability to exercise good judgement. Ability to use critical thinking skills. Ability to handle highly confidential matters with discretion. Ability to work independently as well as be a collaborative team player in completing assigned tasks and meeting deadlines. Ability to manage shifting priorities, frequent interruptions, and a hectic pace. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to adapt to changing demands of the position.

Base Wage: $43,000 - $57,000 annually - actual salary will be based on experience and education.
