Position Summary

 

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University Of New Mexico School Of Medicine, https://hsc.unm.edu/medicine/departments/ophthalmology/,  is seeking a nontenure-track Research Assistant Professor to help build and sustain an existing research program in corneal sciences, with special emphasis on basic molecular mechanisms underlying corneal diseases and/or translational approaches to mitigate corneal blindness.
The appointment will be in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will help to expand a rigorous research program and participate in departmental activities, potentially including graduate and medical student teaching.

There are two national laboratories nearby: Sandia and Los Alamos.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent
  • Postdoctoral experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability of contribute to an independent research program, with potential for developing and submitting for NIH or equivalent funding in the future, as evidenced by research background, high quality publications, and research plan
  • Likelihood for fruitful collaborations with other investigators in the UNM School of Medicine
  • Potential for research interactions with department members
  • Evidence for quality in teaching and instruction
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, and prior experience working with broadly diverse communities
